Over summer, I took part in a 3 week residency based in a construction site in Canary Wharf.  It was a great experience in terms of creating art in an unusual site and having the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas with more experienced artists with a variety of practices.

These images come from a workshop we did during the residency in which we explored the use of line as a 3D drawing tool.  I decided to incorporate my body into my outcomes.

For this piece I smashed the glass and then painted on it and on reflection decided that for the next painting I would paint on the glass first and then smash it.

For this piece I painted directly onto glass, which I then smashed and reassembled.  I think this effect is visually interesting but may be a slightly too violent approach to portraying my subject matter.  I also think it's not as obvious as I'd imagined that the painting is done on glass as it has lost its reflective quality, so I will go over it in a glossy coat.

I experimented with creating silhouettes on patterned backgrounds to make them busier and more interesting, however it appears quite cluttered and distracting.

I feel these pieces are not as strong as the black on white silhouettes but were a useful experiment.

As most of my work is usually two dimensional, I decided to expand my work by experimenting with 3D by using clay.  I felt that exploring the possibilities of three dimensional work would mean that my pieces would have more of an intimidating presence.  I decided to create some rather abstract pieces which combined clay and doll parts, I feel the resulting outcomes are quite unusual and unexpected, making them somewhat humorous.
